Funding Education

Grants I’ve Found:

  • One grant that I found is a teacher development grant provided by The McCarthey Dressman Education Foundation. The main goal of the grant is to support small teams of teachers working in grades K-12 with the implementations of newer methods and groundbreaking teaching strategies that inspire active learning. The grant, through these newer teaching strategies can allow teachers to test these fresh strategies with the students to see how they will react and adapt to the newly introduced ways. The teachers can report their findings back to the organization providing the grant. The teachers can also share what they find with other colleges. If it beneficial to the classroom, other teachers in the school could benefit from the new techniques being used with the students. If I was teaching in a district receiving money to provide a program to improve the way I could run a classroom, I would most definitely take part in it. You can always learn something new by attending a workshop and collaborating with others…especially others that might be more knowledgeable than myself. https://mccartheydressman.org/teacher-development-grants/
  • The second grant I looked at was the Target Field Trip Grant. This grant is provided by the Target company in the amount of $700 to allow students the opportunity to have an engaging learning experience outside of the classroom. The school has to provide the intended objectives for the field trip, the potential benefits to the students, relevance to the school curriculum, the number of students to be included in the trip, and the projected use of the funds. It is very important for students to have an opportunity to learn outside of the classroom. All students can benefit from a field trip in some way. If you are in a less financially stable area, it would be even more important to provide those students with something as special as a field trip because they might not get the chance to experience something like that otherwise. So if I were to be in a school that was awarded this grant, I would sign up to go along to be a staff member to watch the kids while they are out exploring. I might even help join in on the organization of the field trip to help make the best experience possible for the kids. https://corporate.target.com/corporate-responsibility/philanthropy/corporate-giving/field-trip-grants

Resources to Find Grants:

  • The NEA Foundation is an organization the prides themselves in helping to provide an equal opportunity for all within the education system, teachers and students alike. They work to find solutions to problems within schools, they empower school educators to improve student performance, and they also advocate for the education profession. If you go to their search bar, you can search for a variety of different grants that range from literacy to STEM programs to teacher professional development. https://www.neafoundation.org/
  • Teaching Tolerance is a website that provides a wealth of information. They provide brief lesson on hot topics, and they also provide many grants. they provide grants on the classroom and district levels. The classroom level grants focus more on teaching empathy and kindness to one another as well as perspective taking and providing resources necessary to create a warm and welcoming classroom. The district level focuses on providing schools the funds to implement the preventing and responding to incidents of hate. https://www.tolerance.org/
